Now with EL-34 / KT-88 selector & Bias metering/adjustment '.What struck me right away was the Cayin's immediacy - a lifelike quality that was nearly like the sound of a single-ended-triode (SET) amp. (The Mac MC-275 is like that, too).There was another similarity between the A-88T and the MC-275: ballsy bass. The Cayin's bass was exceptionally well controlled and extended for a tube amp. When a tube amp gets bass right, it gets it very right - ripe, rich, full-bodied. The Cayin did. I do like tight bottom ends.This amp was silent.

I can get club levels with the volume control at 10 o'clock. PROS, Fit and finish are excellent. The amp is very heavy and well built. It is very pretty to look at. OK, it is gorgeous. Really, the thing is almost worth the price of admission just to see it sitting on the shelf. It sounds very good.
I listen to it nearly every evening for at least an hour. Some times for several hours.
No listener fatigue noted. Remote works well and looks great. It is a good compliment to the amp, ascetically. When you see it, you know exactly what it is for.
CONS: The thing defaults to CD / Triode mode. The tube BOM sucks. The KT88s and the 6S7Ls were noisy right out of the box. The KT88s would make a loud crackly boom sound and the 6S7Ls hummed, and not in a good way. Unless things have changed, be prepared to replace the tubes.
All in all, a spectacular value. I'm happy with my purchase. A Chinese Mac?!! Posted on 5 Stars Reviewer: BRichard Well I was a bit leery buying this without an audition, going solely on all the reviews (which were all stellar). It was also a crapshoot getting this over the Rogue Cronus which is made in USA. First, the reviews are pretty much on the money.
The thing is gorgeous, build and finish are impeccable. Sonically it sounds great. I don't have a Mac 275 to compare it to however. It easily keeps up with my old Adcom 100W solid state that it replaced.
On the minus side, it always defaults to 'triode' mode on start-up, which is a pain because I prefer ultralinear. So you always have to switch it which is very annoying. It also does not have any AC outlets on the back like my old preamp so now I need to rig up a power strip. Acoustic Sounds did not double box this, and mine arrived like it had gone thru the battle of Berlin. It was trashed. For something of this weight and cost I would have thought extra care would be put into the packaging. Among the best sound in show. Some other amplification at the show sounded this good, but at multiples of the asking price for this integrated amp.

The toroid power transformer and EI audio transformer are specially manufactured for CAYIN A-88T by applying our unique workmanship, which has low magnetic leakage, wide frequency response and low impedance. Two 6N9P/6SL7s and two 6N8P/6SN7s are used in the preamplifier. Ultralinear and triode select.
